Description:
The Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine is responsible for working directly with the Universitys Team Physician(s) to supervise the prevention, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries to Hofstra University Student-Athletes. This position will manage and supervise the daily collaboration with Northwell Health our medical team partner, the athletic training staff, athletic training students, the facilities, and report to the AVP and COO for Athletics. The Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine may receive direction from the Coordinators of the Athletic Training Education Program or the Chair of PESP related to classroom/clinical instruction, clinical supervision, and clinical evaluation of athletic training students.
Specific responsibilities of the position fall into several categories including direct medical care, supervisory/administrative tasks for the Hofstra Department of Athletics, liaison responsibilities with outside departments and agencies such as the NCAA / CAA , including the Athletic training education program and University Requirements.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Medical Care
- Provides prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play care for student-athlete injuries and illnesses.
- Provides medical coverage for assigned practices, competitions, and team travel.
- Administers emergency medical care, including use of emergency equipment and safe athlete transport.
- Collaborates with physicians, physical therapists, and strength and conditioning staff to develop and implement treatment plans.
- Coordinates NCAA and institutional drug testing and preseason physical examinations.
- Communicates relevant injury and health status information to coaching staff.
- Maintains office hours and availability consistent with departmental and team needs.
Supervisory and Administrative Responsibilities
- Oversees athletic training operations, including on-site medical services, physical therapy agreements, and the Athletic Department Health and Safety Program.
- Ensures compliance with NCAA , University, state, and public health regulations, including NYS Department of Health, CDC , OSHA , HIPAA , and FERPA requirements.
- Maintains accurate and confidential medical records and oversees insurance claims related to athletic injuries and illnesses.
- Coordinates student-athlete healthcare appointments and related transportation needs, as necessary.
- Oversees athletic training facilities, equipment, supplies, and inventory.
- Assists with Sports Medicine budget planning and management.
- Supervises Assistant Athletic Trainers and Athletic Training students, including staff scheduling, clinical oversight, and professional development.
- Provides education and guidance to student-athletes and coaches regarding injury prevention, wellness, and rehabilitation.
- Ensures annual compliance with AED , CPR , and other required certifications for Sports Medicine staff.
- Represents the department on institutional, conference, and health and safety committees.
- Serves as the primary liaison among student-athletes, Student Health and Counseling Services, team physicians, external healthcare providers, physical therapists, and insurance representatives.
- May serve as a Clinical Instructor/Preceptor and assist in supervising and evaluating Athletic Training students clinical experiences.
University and Athletic Department Responsibilities
- Complies with all policies, procedures, and regulations of Hofstra University, the Coastal Athletic Association ( CAA ), NCAA , NATA , and other governing bodies.
- Maintains required licensure, certifications, CPR / AED credentials, continuing education, and evidence-based practice training.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with all applicable NCAA rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree.
- 3 to 5 years college athletic training experience
- Candidate must have NATABOC Certification, New York State License or eligible, CPR and AED Certification,
- Valid drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Athletic Training.
- 5+ years of collegiate athletic training experience.

Salary/Salary Range:
$95,000 - $105,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
