Position Summary
The Dean of Students / Instructional Coach serves as a key member of the school's leadership team, supporting both student success and instructional excellence. This role combines student behavior, attendance, and culture leadership with teacher coaching, professional development, and instructional support to ensure a positive learning environment and high levels of academic achievement for all students. This is a full-time, or 1.0 FTE, position.
School: Quist Middle School located at 13451 Yosemite Street, Thornton, CO 80602.
Essential Responsibilities
Student Leadership & School Culture
- Lead and support school-wide behavior systems and restorative practices.
- Develop and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture.
- Investigate and address student discipline concerns in alignment with district policies.
- Facilitate student conflict resolution and restorative conversations.
- Monitor and support student attendance, engagement, and intervention efforts.
- Collaborate with counselors, administrators, teachers, and families to support student success.
- Coordinate behavior intervention plans and monitor student progress.
- Support supervision during arrival, dismissal, lunch, transitions, and school events.
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student behavior, attendance, and support plans.
- Analyze behavior and attendance data to identify trends and implement proactive interventions.
Instructional Coaching & Teacher Development
- Partner with teachers to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide non-evaluative feedback and coaching.
- Model effective instructional strategies and classroom management techniques.
- Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) and collaborative team meetings.
- Design and deliver professional development aligned to school and district goals.
- Support teachers in analyzing student achievement data and adjusting instruction.
- Assist new teachers through mentoring, onboarding, and ongoing support.
- Promote the implementation of evidence-based instructional practices.
- Collaborate with administration to support curriculum implementation and instructional initiatives.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Serve as a member of the campus leadership team.
- Assist with school improvement planning and goal-setting processes.
- Support implementation of district initiatives and campus priorities.
- Collaborate with special education, multilingual, counseling, and intervention teams.
- Help coordinate state testing, intervention programs, and academic support systems.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to student and instructional support.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Qualifications
- Valid teaching certificate required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Demonstrated success as a classroom teacher.
- Experience in instructional coaching, teacher leadership, or school leadership preferred.
- Strong knowledge of behavior systems, restorative practices, and instructional best practices.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.

Qualifications:
- Three years successful teaching or prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities in a school setting.
- Must have a valid Colorado teaching license.
- Ability to provide direction to others and make independent judgments.
- Keep and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, staff and other individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds, in both oral and written form.
