District-Wide Physical Therapist
Purpose
The District-Wide Physical Therapist provides assessment, consultation, and direct physical therapy services to students with disabilities in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The Physical Therapist supports students in accessing and benefiting from their educational environment by addressing gross motor development, mobility, positioning, and functional independence within the school setting.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited program of Physical Therapy
Current license to practice Physical Therapy in North Carolina through the North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners
Experience in pediatric or school-based physical therapy preferred
Knowledge of IDEA regulations and special education processes
Valid North Carolina driver's license
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluation & Assessment
Conduct physical therapy evaluations for students referred through the special education process
Interpret assessment results and prepare written reports
Participate in eligibility determination meetings
IEP Development & Implementation
Develop measurable annual goals related to motor development and functional mobility
Provide direct and consultative physical therapy services as outlined in IEPs
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support student access to curriculum
Recommend adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications
Collaboration & Consultation
Work collaboratively with teachers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, school psychologists, administrators, and families
Provide training to school personnel regarding positioning, lifting, transfers, and mobility support
Consult with parents regarding home carryover strategies
Compliance & Documentation
Maintain accurate service logs and progress monitoring data
Ensure services comply with IDEA, state policies, and district procedures
Maintain Medicaid billing documentation, if applicable
Safeguard confidentiality of student records
Travel
Provide services at multiple school sites across the district
Transport materials and equipment as needed
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and transfer students with assistance as required
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and perform physical tasks related to therapy services
Ability to travel between school locations

Strong understanding of child development and motor skill acquisition
Ability to design functional, school-based therapy interventions
Effective communication and collaboration skills
Ability to manage caseload across multiple locations
Strong organizational and documentation skills
