Assistant Principal, Athol-Royalston Middle School

Supports the Principal as an educational leader of the school, administering all facets of its instructional program, including the co-curricular activities. Supervises all certified and non-certified staff, as assigned by the Principal. Establishes and reinforces expectations for student learning, conduct, and attendance.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists the Principal in the overall administration of the school.
  • Serves as Acting Principal in the absence of the Principal.
  • Implements a fair and consistent system for student discipline.
  • Assists the Principal in supervising the delivery of instruction to all students
  • Assists the Principal with the delivery and supervision of student support services, special education, and Title I services
  • Shares responsibilities with the Principal to engage faculty, staff, and community in the life of the school, utilizing a collaborative leadership style.
  • Assists the Principal in facilitating faculty and staff professional growth and development.
  • Fosters positive student, parent, staff, and community relationships.
  • Implements federal and state laws, administrative regulations, and School Committee policies, as they apply to the school.
  • Works with the Principal to effectively supervise and evaluate certified personnel assigned to the school according to the DESE Educator Evaluation System.
  • Works with the Principal to effectively supervise and evaluate non-certified personnel assigned to the school according to collective bargaining agreements.
  • Works with the Principal, the department leaders or grade level leaders, and faculty to create and adhere to an annual budget.
  • Effectively manages an efficient office and record-keeping systems.
  • Encourages positive public relations within and outside the school.
  • Exercises leadership necessary to make the school facility a safe, attractive, and productive place in which to learn and work.
  • Promotes a responsive, orderly school climate that fosters high expectations and active engagement for all learners.
  • Monitors student attendance and works to engage students and families in ensuring compliance with student attendance laws and policies.
  • Remains current in education practices and invests in one's own professional development.
  • Responsible for procuring substitute teachers to cover classes for staff who are absent, as assigned by the Principal.
  • Serves as a member of the District Instructional Leadership Team, as well as other district committees as assigned.
  • Attends School Committee meetings, as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Superintendent.
