Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under general supervision is responsible for working with teachers to bring about improvements in the classrooms that will impact student achievement and increase reading and literacy. Reports to the principal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Participate in the South Carolina Department of Education Literacy Leader Institute (Reading Coach Professional Development Series).
Assists with the development of the school's Reading Plan.
Model effective instructional strategies for teachers by working weekly with students in whole/small groups or individually.
Facilitate study groups.
Train teachers in data analysis and using data to differentiate instruction.
Coach and mentor colleagues.
Provide daily support to classroom teachers.
Work with teachers to ensure that research-based reading programs are implemented with fidelity.
Help to increase instructional density to meet the needs of students.
Help lead and support reading leadership teams at his or her school.
Continue to increase his or her knowledge base in best practices in reading instruction, intervention, and instructional reading strategies.
Work with all teachers (content teachers and elective teachers) in the school he or she serves, prioritizing time for those teachers, activities, and roles that will have the greatest impact on student achievement, namely coaching and mentoring in classrooms.
Interacts with others in a respectful and cooperative manner at all times.
Willingly performs other related duties as assigned or required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Education and experience as required by state certification authorities in the area of reading/language arts.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of scientifically based reading research, quality reading instruction, and the ability to integrate reading strategies into content area instruction and data management skills
Skills/Effort:
Ability to provide mentoring to teachers through explanation, demonstration and/or supervised practice. Ability to operate general office equipment in the performance of daily activities. Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, District staff, and all other groups involved in the activities of the job.
Working Conditions:
Conducts duties in a school/classroom environment with some exposure to environmental conditions. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related duties that require constant attention and working with students. Physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring the lifting/moving of items up to 25 pounds. Occasional local travel is required; no overnight travel is required. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
Responsibility:
No budgetary responsibility.

Salary:$53,600 to $86,760 Per Year
