    Our K-8 district contains two schools, the Camden Rockport Elementary School (PreK-4) and the Camden Rockport Middle School (5 -8) - each serves between 300 - 340 students from the towns of Camden and Rockport.     Position Summary
    We are seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative professional to provide intensive, evidence-based literacy instruction to students with disabilities across elementary and middle school settings. This position will focus on delivering targeted interventions, analyzing diagnostic assessment data, and developing individualized literacy programming that will enable students with disabilities to access and succeed in the general education curriculum. The successful candidate will work closely with educators, families, and administrators to design measurable IEP goals, monitor student progress, and support the implementation of best practices in special education literacy instruction. Strong expertise in structured literacy approaches, special education law, and data-driven instruction is essential.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide small-group and 1:1 intensive instruction for students with dyslexia, language processing disorders, and other reading disabilities.
    • Explicitly teach decoding, morphology, and comprehension strategies that allow students to access grade-level curriculum in their core classes.
    • Create highly specific, measurable literacy goals that reflect the student's unique deficit areas.
    • Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students, parents, general educators, special educators, school and district administrators.
    • Develop a library of high-interest, low-readability supplemental materials to support individualized learning paths.
    • Translate complex data into clear, narrative progress reports for IEP meetings and parent communication, ensuring all documentation meets legal and district standards.

    Qualifications/Skills

    • Previous experience in teaching or directing literacy programming at the elementary and middle schools, with focused experience in special education.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and data management skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, parents, and staff.
    • Understanding of instruction, laws, and regulations for students with disabilities.
    • Expert-level ability to use diagnostic assessment data (e.g., CTOPP, GORT, or curriculum-based measures) to drive instructional shifts.

    Requirements

    • Background check, including fingerprinting
    • Maine Department of Education Certification required in one of the following:
      • (282) Teacher: Child with Disabilities
      • (030) Administrator of Special Education
      • (035) Assistant Administrator of Special Education
    • Maine Department of Education Certification (092) Literacy Specialist preferred
    • Minimum of 3 years experience as a teacher of students with disabilities

    Pay and Benefits

    • Pay starts at $52,686 per year (step B-0) with possibility of increase based on experience, within the parameters of the applicable contract
