DESCRIPTION:Millbury Memorial Junior-Senior High School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered School Counselor / School Adjustment Counselor to join our learning community. This role is essential to advancing our shared vision of creating meaningful learning experiences where every student feels seen, valued, and heard.
Aligned with our ongoing work around intentional instruction, inclusive systems, and a strong, connected school culture, the School Counselor plays a critical role in supporting the "whole child." This includes fostering students' social-emotional well-being, strengthening their academic engagement, and ensuring equitable access to opportunities and support.
The School Counselor / School Adjustment Counselor provides comprehensive services to support students' emotional wellness and academic success. The position includes case management, counseling, academic advising, and collaboration with staff, families, and community partners to remove barriers and promote student growth-both in and beyond the classroom.
QUALIFICATIONS:Possession of MA DESE license in the area of School Counselor (5 -12)School Adjustment Counselor (All Levels) preferredStrong communication skills and a background in working with parents/guardians as partners in the educational processExperience working with students of varied backgrounds, at-risk students, and guidanceBackground with conflict-resolution techniquesA commitment to improve the lives of students and work in a collaborative environment
GENERAL DUTIES:Provides social/emotional support to students and direct services to students with mental health, behavioral/social needs as identified through the Instructional Support TeamCreate and implement a program involving peer mediation, conflict resolution, and/or restorative practicesSupport students in junior high school alternative ed programServes as a liaison between classroom teachers, counselors, administration, outside agencies, parents, and studentsCollaborates and coordinates with administrators and staff to develop and modify individualized behavior programming, as necessaryCoordinates individual and/or small group therapeutic opportunities and/or counseling for studentsPromotes student education on emotional regulation, wellness strategies, and social developmentWorks effectively with the district BCBAs, School Psychologists, and School CounselorsSeeks out and implements evidence-based counseling techniques to deliver short-term counseling interventions to resolve immediate conflicts and problems; intervenes in student-specific situations that disrupt learning in order for re-entry to the classroom environmentSupports re-entry from hospitalization due to social/emotional difficulties, medically fragile (i.e., concussion), or long-term medical absencesServe on the Instructional Support Team and Crisis TeamEngages in consistent and timely two-way communication with the parents/guardians to keep them apprised of student progress and gather feedback and information to support student learning and well-beingProvides crisis management services, including assessing for safetyMaintains a caseload of students to advise for academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and makes recommendations for services as neededProvides support to school personnel regarding student engagement, cultural diversity, and the delivery of educational supports to students who have multiple risk factorsConsult with in-district clinical staff, outside agencies/providers to monitor students' mental health symptoms and the impact on academic functioningPartners and consults with teachers, school administrators, and other school personnel for purposes of diagnosing, evaluating, and recommending interventions for the adjustment of studentsAssess students for substance use, support systems, physical and emotional functioning, barriers to academic performance, peer issues, suicidal/homicidal ideation, and similar issuesFacilitate trainings and workshops for students, teachers, school staff, and parentsOther duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Assistant Principal
SALARY: In accordance with the teachers' contract
