School Counselor 9-12, 0.5 FTE (One-Year Position)

General Responsibilities: The School Counselor is responsible for assisting students in their overall experience during high school through consultations, programming, and direct services to students, teachers, and parents.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain trusting relationships with students to provide equitable, individualized, and effective support.
  • Provide academic advising and counseling to address students’ social-emotional, personal, and academic needs.
  • Collaborates with teachers in supporting students’ personal, social, and academic needs;
  • Assists students and parents in understanding the student’s social, academic, and personal needs;
  • Identify students requiring targeted or intensive mental health, social-emotional, or medical support; make referrals to community agencies and collaborate with outside care providers.
  • Provides post-secondary guidance to students and families;
  • Support students facing challenges with attendance, engagement, or academic performance, collaborating with teachers, parents, and administrators as needed.
  • Collaborates closely with teachers, administration, academic support staff, clinical staff, special education staff, and parents in order to help students reach their academic and social-emotional goals.
  • Enrolls new students in grades 9-12
  • Assist students in technical program and academic course selection, ensuring that they are meeting graduation requirements and making selections that best match their post-secondary plans.
  • Write counselor recommendation letters for college;
  • Participate in a variety of teams and programs to identify student needs and develop appropriate intervention plans, such as Student Support Teams, Student Intervention Team, Section 504, Special Education, etc.
  • Implements guidance seminar curricula in grades 9-12 and suggests revisions where appropriate;
  • Assumes such other duties as may be assigned by the Coordinator of School Counseling and Head of School.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees;
  2. Massachusetts certification in School Counseling; grades 5-12

Staff position is a one year, 0.5 FTE, who reports directly to the coordinator of school counseling.
