JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Reading Interventionist - Title I Funded

FLSA: Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY

To provide targeted, evidence-based reading instruction to positively impact student achievement. This position supports the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).

Under general supervision assists students in learning subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.

Reports to the school Principal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Consult with school and district administration, literacy coach, classroom teachers, and other interventionists about instruction to align interventions with Tier 1 instruction and school mathematics goals.

Assist in identifying students for intervention services through screening and assessment data.

Provide differentiated and targeted instruction to individual and small groups of students in both push-in and pull-out delivery models, focusing on foundational literacy skills including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension using High Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM).

Administer ongoing assessments (diagnostic, progress monitoring).

Collect timely, effective assessment data and maintain accurate records of student performance and growth using Student Success.

Use student data to adjust interventions and inform instructional decisions.

Maintain and document ongoing communication with both families and classroom teachers.

Participate in MTSS meetings to review student progress and recommend next steps as part of team processes.

Participate in district and school professional development related to literacy instruction and intervention.

Maintain confidentiality of student information.

Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or district leadership.

Recognizes and follows the appropriate procedures in the "chain of command" as designated by board policies and/or administrative procedures.

Presents a positive image of Spartanburg County District Two Schools at all times.

Performs other related duties as required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (Master's degree preferred)

Valid state teaching certification in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Special Education, or related area

At least three years of successful classroom teaching experience in literacy

Experience providing literacy intervention to elementary students preferred

Knowledge of MTSS frameworks and progress monitoring tools

Knowledge:

Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge in the methods for developing lesson plans and materials, and classroom activities which stimulate learning. Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Knowledge of counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and adjustment problems. Knowledge of the materials and information which must be prepared for classroom instructional activities.

Skills/Effort:

Strong understanding of foundational literacy skills and instructional practices

Ability to enter, analyze, and interpret student data using technology platforms and software (Google Suite, Student Success, other MTSS software platforms)

Strong communication and collaboration skills

Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families

Organizational skills and attention to detail

Effective time management and prioritization skills

Working Conditions:

Conducts duties in a classroom environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students. Physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring lifting/moving of items up to 25 pounds. Occasional local travel is required; no overnight travel is required. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.

Responsibility:

Responsible for classroom materials and supplies budget.

Supervises students in classroom.

Supervises instructional aides and volunteers assigned.
