The Assistant Principal assists the Principal in providing instructional leadership, maintaining a safe and supportive school environment, and ensuring the effective daily operation of the school. The Assistant Principal supports staff, students, and families through strong communication, consistent systems, and collaborative leadership practices that promote academic achievement and positive school culture. Essential Duties and Responsibilities School Operations and Daily Management
- Assist in the overall day-to-day operation of the school.
- Maintain a visible presence throughout the building, including daily classroom and hallway walkthroughs.
- Supervise student arrival and dismissal procedures at the front of the building.
- Assist with lunch duty supervision and student monitoring.
- Coordinate substitute coverage for teachers, paraprofessionals, and meeting coverage needs.
- Organize and oversee staff sign-ups for evening events; schedules to be posted in the faculty room by October 1 annually.
- Coordinate and supervise fire drills, including communication and organization of zone leaders.
- Attend school-sponsored evening activities and events in coordination with the Principal
Student Discipline, Attendance & Support
- Support student behavioral interventions and daily student management.
- Conduct parent outreach related to student behavior, attendance, and school concerns.
- Complete and maintain discipline reports in Student Information System.
- Complete suspension documentation and reports in Student Information System.
- Monitor student attendance and prepare attendance letters in accordance with district procedures.
- Issue and monitor bus conduct tickets and communication with families.
- Participate in Student Assistance Team (SAT) meetings and intervention planning.
- Attend 504 and IEP meetings as needed.
Instructional Leadership & Assessment
- Conduct classroom observations and walkthroughs using TeachPoint.
- Monitor educator evaluation timelines and support compliance with district expectations.
- Support teachers through instructional feedback and professional collaboration.
- Assist in preparing and facilitating Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), including presentations and materials.
- Attend grade-level meetings regularly to support instructional planning and student needs.
- Assist with development and communication of school assessment schedules.
- Coordinate and support MCAS preparation and schoolwide testing procedures.
Communication & Community Engagement
- Develop and distribute newsletters twice monthly according to the district communication schedule.
- Prepare School Committee updates twice monthly as directed by Central Office.
- Attend PTO meetings and support family engagement initiatives.
- Participate in Leadership Council meetings unless excused.
- Attend School Council meetings and contribute to school improvement initiatives.
- Foster positive relationships among students, staff, families, and community members.
Qualifications
- Massachusetts licensure as Assistant Principal/Assistant Superintendent (appropriate grade span).
- Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field.
- Successful teaching and/or administrative experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with student information systems, educator evaluation platforms, and assessment coordination preferred.
- Experience with MA DESE Turnaround Practices
- Knowledge of the MA Tiered System of Student Supports
- Experience as an evaluator using the MA Educator Evaluation System
- After school and evening hours required.
Compensation $85,000-$95,000, commensurate with experience
