Falmouth High School is seeking a dynamic and innovative full-time High School Library/Media teacher starting in the 2026-2027 academic year. This is for a maximum of a two-year position. The individual will play a central role in supporting student research, information literacy, digital citizenship, and the meaningful integration of technology into classroom instruction across disciplines. The Library/Media Specialist will collaborate closely with teachers to design engaging learning experiences that develop students as critical thinkers, researchers, creators, and responsible digital learners.
This position will also be instrumental in supporting staff and students through the school's transition from laptops to iPads, helping to identify best practices for instructional technology integration, digital workflow, and student-centered learning. Additional responsibilities include supporting independent student learning initiatives, supporting a vibrant and accessible learning environment in the library, collaborating with faculty on curriculum and research projects, and taking an active role in the school community in support of student learning. Falmouth educators are expected to engage in ongoing professional learning, authentic collaboration with colleagues, and regular goal-setting and reflection as part of a strong professional culture focused on continuous improvement.
Purpose:
- Establish productive relationships with educators in order to improve instructional practice and learning outcomes.
- Inspire educators and leaders to use technology to create equitable and ongoing access to high-quality learning.
- Model and support educators to design learning experiences and environments to meet the needs and interests of all students.
- Plan and provide professional learning for educators and leaders to use technology to advance teaching and learning.
- Teach informational literacy skills including developing research questions, locating & evaluating sources, reading for information, taking notes, citing sources, synthesizing information, and sharing new knowledge.
- Support educators and students in recognizing the responsibilities and opportunities inherent in living in a digital world.
- Encourage and support independent reading and the development of reading comprehension through curriculum planning, instruction, resources, and collection development.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Provides support and guidance to staff in the area of educational technology
- Serves as an instructional leader in the school
- Collaborates with classroom teachers to plan and deliver effective instruction
- Designs and teaches engaging inquiry-based learning experiences that incorporate multiple literacies and foster critical thinking
- Designs and leads professional development for staff
- Supports technology integration in the classroom through planning, collaboration, cooperation, and co-teaching with teachers and support staff
- Stays current in the area of educational technology and innovative teaching practices and shares that expertise with colleagues
- Provides clear expectations to students and their parents/guardians regarding ethical and responsible use of technology
- Promotes digital citizenship
- Works with the PowerSchool administrator to manage online accounts and subscriptions for staff and students
- Meets weekly with the district technology team
- Provides input to the district technology team about the hardware, software and professional development needs of the building
- Selects reading materials and resources in a wide variety of formats that reflect diverse and inclusive points of view and contribute to each learner's ability to read for informational needs and for personal enjoyment.
- Curates a wealth of diverse resources that complement the curriculum and learners' interests. Instruct and model curation techniques for the school community.
Qualifications:
- Must hold (or be eligible to hold) the appropriate valid Maine teacher certification for Library - Media Specialist (071 Certificate).
- Experience with integrating technology into instruction
- Preferred high school experience and technology integration experience
